How to choose the best bird for your family

The first step in choosing the best bird is research the internet. Here you
will look at pictures, read stories, and chat etc. to learn about the different
breeds of birds, and which will fit your lifestyle. Then visit pet stores and
markets or shows to look at birds. This is where you can see color and
size, listen to the bird, watch it's behavior, and ask more questions. Then
you should contact breeders. You can do this on the Internet and over
the phone.  Many breeders do not allow people to just browse. This is for
many reasons, mainly to protect the health of young birds. Keep in mind
the Pet stores and Breeders should be pleasant and willing to share
information with you. Otherwise move on, do not waste your time with
unpleasant people. Adding to your family should be an enjoyable and
memorable event.

Now you are ready to set an appointment with the breeder or retailer of
choice. At this time you will see the birds first hand, and take note how
the caretaker cares for their birds. The cages should be clean and roomy
with fresh food and water. The birds should be easy to handle, alert and
curious not fearful.  Look for a healthy bird that stands proud with bright
clear eyes, and clear nostrils. You should bring your bird home after it
has weaned, the sooner to their weaned date, the better the bird will
bond with your family.

As a breeder of lovable hand tame parrots, I would suggest that you
really do the research. Find a parrot that fits your personality and
lifestyle. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Make sure that you get a
lovable, hand tame, healthy parrot that will be part of your family for
years. I would suggest looking into the Green Cheek Conures and the
Cockatiels as your family friend. Each bird from these two breeds have
their own personalities. These two breeds are great family birds and
learn fast. They do well with young children and adults. These breeds are
also great for a first bird. Following these steps should help make the
search for your new bird friend an adventure worth remembering.
